==Backstory==
 
Of all the mages who answered the call to help rebuild the Order, perhaps the most unusual is the ghost-mage known as Ancestor. A fearsome and powerful wizard, he is able to channel the raw power of the rifts in ways that no living war mage can manage. From what little he can recall, the Ancestor was one of the most powerful in the Order in an age long past - perhaps even one of its founding members. But he has lost most of his memories and is prone to severe bouts of gloom and despair. Unfortunately the Ancestor also spreads gloom and despair to those around him. When he first arrived he was the subject of much curious discussion, but now the other members of the rebuilt Order have distanced themselves from the unhappy spirit. He just won't stop talking about the 'good old days' when the magic was pure and uncorrupted and how lucky everyone else is to still be alive. When the Ancestor is not clearing legions of the Unchained out of 'his' fortresses or reminding all his friends that their days are numbered, he's usually found sitting in a comfortable chair mumbling, or wandering the halls looking for his misplaced teeth.
